Good Textbooks For Pharmacy Students In Nigeria

Pharmacy textbooks for pharmacy students
Pharmacy textbooks
One of the secrets of pharmacy education is reading books. These include lecture notes and good textbooks.
However, reading the same textbook a lecturer is using to lecture makes learning and passing examination easier. To read a good book is one thing, getting your hands on it is another. Since pharmacy is a global profession, there are tonnes of textbooks available for use by both students and lecturers. However, due to low funds, students prefer cheap books that contain loads of information in a concise manner.

Modern pharmacy textbooks in Nigeria can be in both hard copy and soft copy. In Nigeria, pharmacy books in hard copy are in local medical bookshops. However, Lagos state houses major medical bookshops in Nigeria where tonnes of pharmacy books that are scarce can be gotten. There are dozens of a website that provide access to soft copies of pharmacy textbooks free for download.

If you are new to the pharmacy, the course run under a faculty with six departments. Each of them has a different course. Since each department has a separate course of its own, there tend to be so many books under that course. Fortunately, some textbooks written cover most courses under that department. That means just one textbook will be enough for that department.

Pharmaceutics

Codex:

This book is one of the compulsory books in pharmacy school. Students use it from 200 level during pharmaceutics practical experiments in the laboratory, which must be carried along.

Around the world, most countries have their own standard codex. However, Nigeria is yet to develop theirs. That is why students in Nigeria uses codex from Britain known as Britain Pharmaceutical Codex (B.P.C) or in some cases British Pharmacopoeia (B.P). There are many others.

You want to know the price. Do not ask me that because it seems it is one of the most expensive books pharmacy students’ needs in school. The last time I check, it was way into hundreds of thousands. Ha! Please do not be scared yet.  Most schools have a way of helping their students get a subsidised version at a cheaper rate. Called it photocopy or duplicate is up to how you see it. Lol.

There are books needed for sciences which cover year one. Since science courses are just for a year, I have not added them. However, a good secondary science textbook can do for most of them. However, you can consult science students for that.

Note: I have not used all. However, students and lecturers who have used them recommended most of them. In addition, I will keep updating this as time goes on.

In case you have anyone textbook you used during your time, which is still available and good, please feel free to comment with your suggestions. I will add it if it is worth it.
